The total amount of premiums received for all forms of insurance was 818,938,821, of which 87,703,300 was received by Canadian companies, and $11,235,521 by British and American. The following summary shows the distribution of those premiums to the various classes :

RULES AND REGULATIONS REGARDING THE ACCEPTANCE OF SECUR-
ITIES OFFERED FOR DEPOSIT BY INSURANCE COM-
PANIES, &c., 3 c.

 

The following extracts from Orders in Council, Minutes of the Treasury Board, &c. (all of which have been previously published) are here collected for convenience of reference :

Municipal Securities.—" The Board recommended that municipal bonds, when accepted, may he taken at 90 per cent, and that Montreal Harbour bonds be placed on the same footing." (O.C., 1st April, 1876.)

Particulars od Securities offered for Deposit.--" All applications for the acceptance of bonds or debentures, whether as original deposits or in exchange for securities which the applicants desire to have released, must be accompanied by a statement giving full particulars of the securities offered for acceptance under the following headings, viz.:—
