6. From the experience which is to be used as the basis of a select table with a five year selection period, the values of q., are calculated for the ultimate table by excluding from the experience the first five years of each life after the presumed selection. Then using only those lives which were selected at, say age 25, the values of q[251, 4[251+1    4[251+4 are calculated and graduated

to fit in with the ultimate q30, q31 . . . , When this has been done for each age at entry we have complete tables of q[x1+n for all values of x and for values of is from 0 up to 4.

If 20 is the youngest age at entry, we first form the ultimate table by using the ultimate values of qx on the ultimate value of

125 =1[201 X P[20] X p[20]+1 X p[20J+2 X P[20]+3 X p[20]+4

where 11201 is an arbitrarily chosen number.

Other select values of 1[x1+,, are formed as follows:

l[x]+4 = Ix +5 X X;1+4 l[x1+3 l[x]+4 X P[x1+3

Referring to the O[NM] Table of the numbers living, we find for example that there are 84,924 lives in the ultimate table living at age 40 out of 87,402 who were living at age 37 two years after selection, or out of 88,536 who were select lives at age 35, or out of 89,187 who were living at age 35 and were select lives before age 31.

The student should examine the O[NM1 table for himself and verify the deduction of the l[x1+n values.
